PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
1829 × 38 × 1.2mm Polished 304 Stainless Steel Piano Hinge
This medium-duty stainless steel piano hinge, also known as a continuous hinge, measures 1829mm long and 38mm wide when fully open. It is manufactured from 1.2mm-thick Grade 304 stainless steel with a polished finish.
Piano hinges were originally developed to hinge the long keyboard covers and lids fitted to pianos. They are now widely used in cabinet making, furniture, cases, doors and access panels where continuous support is required along an extended hinged edge.
The 1.2mm leaf is the thinner option within this medium-duty range. It provides greater rigidity and accepts larger fixings than the lighter 0.9mm piano hinges while retaining a relatively slim profile.
The in-line fixing holes are positioned at 101.6mm centres and countersunk for No.6 woodscrews. The hinge has a 3.3mm-diameter pin and 25.4mm knuckle length.
Supplied as one complete 1829mm hinge length. It may be cut to a shorter required length using suitable stainless-steel cutting equipment.

Why use a continuous hinge?
A continuous hinge runs along the hinged edge instead of concentrating the fixing at several separate hinge positions. This can help distribute movement and stress while maintaining alignment along a long door, lid or panel.
Cutting and installation
- Measure and mark the required finished length.
- Use suitable stainless-steel cutting equipment and appropriate protective equipment.
- Remove all sharp edges and metal swarf after cutting.
- Align the complete hinge before marking the fixing positions.
- Select No.6 woodscrews of a suitable length and material for the substrate.
- Test movement and alignment before final tightening.
Fixing screws are not confirmed as included and must not be advertised as supplied.
Questions and answers
Why is it called a piano hinge?
This continuous-hinge format was originally used for the long keyboard covers and lids fitted to pianos.
What size is this hinge?
It measures 1829mm long, 38mm wide when fully open and 1.2mm thick.
What grade of stainless steel is used?
The hinge is manufactured from Grade 304 stainless steel.
Is this a medium-duty piano hinge?
Yes. Its 1.2mm leaf provides a firmer and more rigid construction than the lighter 0.9mm piano hinges.
What is the hinge-pin diameter?
The correct pin diameter is 3.3mm. The previous 3.5mm description was incorrect.
How are the fixing holes arranged?
The countersunk holes are positioned in line on the opposing leaves at 101.6mm centres.
What size screws should be used?
The fixing holes are countersunk for No.6 woodscrews. Select an appropriate screw length and material for the substrate and application.
Can it be shortened?
Yes. It may be cut using suitable stainless-steel cutting equipment. Remove sharp edges and swarf after cutting.
Are fixing screws included?
Fixing screws are not confirmed as included.
Is it fire rated or security certified?
No fire-door rating, security classification or certified load capacity is declared for this product.
Is Grade 304 stainless steel suitable outdoors?
Grade 304 stainless steel offers useful corrosion resistance, but environmental exposure and maintenance must be considered. Do not describe it as corrosion-proof or suitable for marine environments.
