PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
1830 × 25 × 1mm Electro-Brass Steel Piano Hinge
This 1830mm steel piano hinge, also known as a continuous hinge, measures 25mm wide when fully open and 1mm thick. The electro-brass plated finish gives the steel a warm, traditional brass-coloured appearance.
Piano hinges were originally developed for hinging the long keyboard covers and lids fitted to pianos. They are now commonly used in cabinet making, furniture, boxes, cases, access panels and other joinery requiring support along an extended hinged edge.
Continuous hinges are also used in some security-conscious door and panel designs because the connection and fixing positions extend along the joint. This particular product has no declared security classification, load rating or fire-door certification, so suitability must be assessed for each installation.
Supplied as one complete 1830mm hinge length. It may be cut to a shorter required length using suitable metal-cutting equipment.

What is an electro-brass finish?
Electro brass is a decorative brass-coloured plated finish applied over the steel base material. It provides a traditional gold-toned appearance without making the hinge solid brass.
Why use a continuous hinge?
A continuous hinge extends along the hinged edge instead of concentrating the connection at several separate hinge positions. This can help distribute movement along a long lid, door or panel and maintain alignment across its length.
Cutting and installation
- Measure and mark the required finished length carefully.
- Use suitable metal-cutting equipment and personal protective equipment.
- Remove sharp edges and metal swarf after cutting.
- Position and align the complete hinge before marking fixing points.
- Select fixings appropriate for the substrate, hinge holes and application.
- Test alignment and movement before final tightening.
Fixing screws are not confirmed as included. Do not advertise included fixings unless the physical product has been checked.
Questions and answers
Why is it called a piano hinge?
This continuous-hinge format was originally used for the long keyboard covers and lids fitted to pianos.
What is a continuous hinge?
A continuous hinge extends along most or all of the hinged edge, providing continuous support rather than using several separate butt hinges.
What size is this hinge?
It measures 1830mm long, 25mm wide when fully open and 1mm thick.
Is this hinge made from solid brass?
No. It is manufactured from steel with an electro-brass plated decorative finish.
Can the hinge be shortened?
Yes. It may be cut to the required length using suitable metal-cutting equipment. Remove all sharp edges after cutting.
Is it suitable for cabinet making?
Yes. Piano hinges are commonly used for appropriate cabinet doors, cupboards, furniture, boxes, lids and access panels.
Can piano hinges be used for door security?
Continuous hinges are used in some security-conscious door and panel designs because the hinge connection extends along the joint. This product has no declared security classification, so suitability must be assessed for the installation.
Is it suitable for exposed exterior use?
No exterior corrosion-performance rating is declared. Do not advertise this electro-brass plated hinge as weatherproof or corrosion-proof.
Is this hinge fire rated?
No fire-door certification is declared. Do not use it where a certified fire-door hinge is required.
Are fixing screws included?
Fixings are not confirmed as included. Select suitable fixings for the hinge holes, substrate and intended application.
