PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Onyx black 125° hinge for thick and profiled cabinet fronts
The Blum 71B7550D CLIP top BLUMOTION hinge in Onyx black provides specialist opening geometry for thick, profiled and mitred cabinet fronts. Its dark finish is particularly well suited to black, anthracite and dark timber cabinetry where a conventional nickel hinge would remain visible when the door is open.
In a correctly planned overlay application, the hinge provides zero protrusion at 90°. This keeps the open door clear of the cabinet opening so that internal drawers, pull-out shelves and storage fittings can operate without catching the door.

Planning thick and profiled fronts
This is not a general-purpose hinge that automatically fits every door up to a stated thickness. The front profile, radius, cup drilling distance, mounting-plate height, required gap and surrounding cabinet clearances must be considered together.
Blum’s gap-calculation tables include front thicknesses from 29mm to 40mm. Unrestricted 125° applications are commonly planned around fronts up to approximately 31mm, while thicker or more heavily profiled fronts may require additional clearance or a restricted opening angle. Complete a trial installation before drilling every door.
The Blum 70T7553 opening-angle stop reduces this hinge to 92° where the front profile or surrounding cabinet construction requires controlled clearance.
Understanding zero protrusion
Zero protrusion describes the position of the door at 90° in a correctly planned overlay application. At this position, the door remains clear of the cabinet opening, helping internal pull-outs pass the door without obstruction.
The door continues travelling when opened beyond 90° towards the maximum 125° position. Clearance from walls, neighbouring doors, handles and projecting worktops must therefore still be checked.
Mounting plate and fixings
The hinge has a screw-on cup, not a screw-on mounting plate. It connects tool-free to a compatible plate from the Blum CLIP mounting-plate range. Select the plate height according to the required overlay and cabinet construction.
This listing contains one hinge. The mounting plate, cup-fixing screws, opening-angle stop and decorative cover caps are sold separately.
Alternative hinges
- Choose the nickel 71B7550D hinge for light-coloured cabinet interiors.
- For a wider opening angle on suitable standard-thickness fronts, consider the Onyx black 71B7550 155° hinge.

Frequently asked questions
What doors is the Blum 71B7550D Onyx hinge designed for?
It is designed for thick, profiled and mitred cabinet fronts. It is not an aluminium profile-frame hinge or a universal replacement for every standard cabinet hinge.
What does zero protrusion at 90° mean?
In a correctly planned overlay application, the open door remains clear of the cabinet opening at 90°. This allows internal drawers and pull-out shelves to pass the door.
Does the hinge open beyond the zero-protrusion position?
Yes. Its maximum opening angle is 125°. The door continues moving beyond the 90° zero-protrusion position, so clearance around the cabinet must be checked.
What drilling is required?
The screw-on hinge cup requires a 35mm hole with a minimum drilling depth of 11.7mm. Blum specifies a 3–8mm drilling distance for the overlay application, subject to the complete installation geometry.
What is the maximum suitable door thickness?
There is no universal maximum because suitability depends on the front profile, drilling distance, required gap and opening angle. Blum’s planning tables include fronts from 29mm to 40mm, but thicker applications may require additional clearance or the 92° opening-angle stop.
Can the soft-close action be switched off?
Yes. The integrated BLUMOTION mechanism can be deactivated on individual hinges using the switch on the hinge cup.
Are the mounting plate and screws included?
No. One hinge is supplied. The compatible CLIP mounting plate, fixing screws, opening-angle stop and decorative cover caps are available separately.
