PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Blum 71T9780 CLIP top hinge is a sprung 95° inset hinge for thick cabinet doors and doors with decorative profiles. Its fully cranked hinge arm positions the closed door inside the cabinet opening, while the specialised hinge geometry helps accommodate thicker edges, mouldings and raised front profiles.
The hinge cup is supplied with press-in dowels for production-style installation into a correctly prepared three-hole drilling pattern. A mechanical spring provides positive self-closing action, but this hinge does not contain integrated BLUMOTION soft close.

Legacy replacement information
The 71T9780 is particularly useful when replacing an existing hinge with the same part number and drilling pattern. It is not shown in Blum’s current thick/profile-door ordering table, so it should be regarded as a legacy replacement line rather than the first choice for a completely new cabinet design.
Before ordering a replacement, check the number stamped into the original hinge and compare the application, opening angle and cup fixing. Similar-looking Blum hinges can have different cranking, closing mechanisms and drilling requirements.
Designed for inset doors
An inset door closes inside the cabinet opening rather than overlapping the cabinet side. The fully cranked arm of the 71T9780 provides the geometry needed to position the door within the opening.
Inset installations require accurate planning because the mounting-plate position, door thickness, drilling distance and required perimeter gap all influence the finished alignment.
What does knock-in fixing mean?
The hinge cup has press-in dowels that locate in two fixing holes positioned alongside the main 35mm cup bore. The complete drilling pattern must match the hinge before installation.
Unlike INSERTA, knock-in fixing is not a hand-operated, tool-free system. The dowels should be seated evenly using suitable hinge-insertion equipment or a compatible insertion ram. Do not hammer directly on the hinge arm or cup, as this can damage the hinge and produce an uneven fixing.
Planning a thick or profiled door
Nominal door thickness does not confirm suitability by itself. A rounded edge, raised moulding or projecting profile may require a larger minimum gap as the door opens.
Check the entire door cross-section and cup position before machining. A trial installation is recommended for doors near 30mm or above, heavily moulded fronts and replacement applications where the original drilling dimensions cannot be confirmed.
This hinge is intended for compatible timber, MDF, chipboard and similar furniture fronts. It is not an aluminium-frame-door hinge.
Sprung closing without soft close
The internal spring draws the door towards the cabinet as it closes. This creates a positive self-closing action, but it does not slow the final closing movement in the same way as BLUMOTION.
For a new installation requiring integrated soft close, consider the Blum 71B9790 INSERTA BLUMOTION hinge or the Blum 71B9750 screw-on BLUMOTION hinge.
Mounting plate required
The press-in dowels secure the hinge cup to the door. A compatible Blum CLIP mounting plate is still required on the cabinet.
The mounting plate must be selected according to the cabinet construction and required inset position. The product is supplied as one hinge; the mounting plate is not included.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Blum 71T9780 still a current hinge?
The 71T9780 is not shown in Blum’s current thick/profile-door ordering table. It should therefore be treated as a legacy replacement product and matched carefully to the existing hinge and drilling pattern.
Does the 71T9780 have soft close?
No. It is a sprung, self-closing hinge without integrated BLUMOTION.
What type of door is the hinge designed for?
It is designed for inset cabinet doors with thick or decoratively profiled timber, MDF, chipboard or similar furniture fronts. It is not an aluminium-frame-door hinge.
What does knock-in or press-in fixing mean?
The hinge cup is supplied with dowels that are pressed into two prepared fixing holes alongside the 35mm cup bore.
Is the knock-in hinge tool-free?
No. Knock-in dowels should be installed evenly using suitable hinge-insertion equipment. INSERTA is Blum’s hand-operated tool-free cup-fixing system.
What drilling pattern is required?
The hinge requires a 35mm cup bore approximately 12.7mm deep and two matching dowel holes with a 45mm fixing-hole spread.
What door thickness can the 71T9780 accommodate?
Published specifications vary between approximately 30mm and 32mm. The door profile, edge radius, drilling position and operating gap must also be checked, and a trial installation is recommended for thicker fronts.
Is a mounting plate included?
No. The product contains one hinge. A compatible Blum CLIP mounting plate must be ordered separately.
What is the closest screw-on alternative?
The Blum 71T9750 is the equivalent sprung 95° inset thick-door hinge with a conventional screw-on cup.
What is the closest INSERTA alternative?
The Blum 71T9790B provides the same sprung, non-soft-close application with tool-free INSERTA cup fixing.
