PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Blum 71T9790B CLIP top hinge combines specialised thick-door geometry with an INSERTA tool-free cup fixing. It is designed for inset cabinet doors with thick fronts, shaped edges or decorative profiles where a conventional hinge may not provide sufficient opening clearance.
The fully cranked hinge arm positions the closed door inside the cabinet opening. A mechanical spring provides positive self-closing action, while the 95° opening angle helps manage the movement of thicker or profiled door edges.
This is a standard sprung CLIP top hinge and does not contain integrated BLUMOTION soft close.

What is an inset hinge?
An inset door closes inside the cabinet opening rather than covering the cabinet side. The fully cranked arm of the 71T9790B provides the hinge geometry needed to position the door within the opening.
Inset installations require careful planning because the cabinet setback, mounting-plate height, door thickness, drilling distance and desired perimeter gap all affect the finished position.
What is INSERTA fixing?
INSERTA is Blum’s tool-free method of securing the hinge cup to a correctly drilled door. The 35mm cup is placed into the main bore, while the two integrated fixings locate in the adjacent 8mm holes. Operating the INSERTA mechanism secures the cup without separate fixing screws.
This can speed up production and provides a consistent fixing where doors have been accurately machined for Blum’s INSERTA drilling pattern. It is not a direct replacement for a screw-on hinge unless the door already has the necessary two 8mm fixing holes.
Planning a thick or profiled door
Blum provides planning data for front thicknesses from 16mm to 32mm. This range does not guarantee compatibility with every door design. A raised moulding, rounded edge or projecting profile can require more operating clearance than a flat front of the same nominal thickness.
Check the complete cross-section of the door and use Blum’s minimum-gap table when choosing the cup drilling distance. A trial installation is recommended for unusual profiles and applications near the upper end of the planning range.
This product is intended for compatible timber, MDF, chipboard and similar furniture fronts. It is not an aluminium-frame-door hinge.
Sprung closing without BLUMOTION
The built-in spring draws the door towards the cabinet as it closes. This provides a positive self-closing action but does not slow the door before it reaches the cabinet.
For integrated soft closing, choose the Blum 71B9790 CLIP top BLUMOTION hinge. Blum advises against mixing standard CLIP top and CLIP top BLUMOTION hinges on the same door.
Mounting plate required
The INSERTA mechanism only fixes the hinge cup to the door. A compatible Blum CLIP mounting plate is still required on the cabinet.
The appropriate plate depends on the cabinet construction, fixing method and required inset position. The product is supplied as one hinge; the mounting plate is not included.

Frequently asked questions
What type of door is the Blum 71T9790B designed for?
It is designed for inset cabinet doors with thick or profiled timber, MDF, chipboard or similar furniture fronts. It is not an aluminium-frame-door hinge.
Does the 71T9790B have soft close?
No. It is a sprung, self-closing hinge without integrated BLUMOTION. Choose the 71B9790 when integrated soft close is required.
What does INSERTA mean?
INSERTA is Blum’s tool-free cup-fixing system. The hinge is secured in a correctly drilled 35mm cup and two adjacent 8mm fixing holes without separate cup screws.
What drilling pattern is required?
The hinge requires a 35mm cup bore approximately 12.7mm deep, together with two 8mm INSERTA fixing holes positioned on 45mm centres.
What door thickness can the hinge accommodate?
Blum provides planning data for fronts from 16mm to 32mm. Suitability also depends on the profile, edge radius, drilling distance, mounting plate and required operating gap.
Is a mounting plate included?
No. The product contains one hinge. A compatible Blum CLIP mounting plate must be selected and ordered separately.
What is the difference between 71T9790B and 71B9790?
The 71T9790B is sprung and self-closing but does not have soft close. The 71B9790 has integrated, switchable BLUMOTION. Both use INSERTA fixing and are designed for 95° inset thick-door applications.
What is the difference between 71T9790B and 71T9750?
Both are sprung 95° inset hinges without integrated soft close. The 71T9790B uses tool-free INSERTA cup fixing, while the 71T9750 has a conventional screw-on cup.
Can standard CLIP top and BLUMOTION hinges be mixed on one door?
No. Blum advises against combining standard CLIP top and CLIP top BLUMOTION hinges on the same door.
