Legacy 95° knock-in hinge for thick half-overlay cabinet doors

The Blum 71T9680 CLIP top hinge is a sprung, self-closing hinge for thick and profiled furniture fronts in a dual or half-overlay application. Its half-cranked arm allows two doors to be mounted on opposite sides of the same central cabinet partition.

This is the standard self-closing version without integrated BLUMOTION. It is particularly useful as a like-for-like replacement where an existing cabinet is already fitted with Blum 71T9680 hinges and the original drilling pattern needs to be retained.

Blum included 71T9680 in its earlier thick-door hinge range, but the part is not shown in the current catalogue. It should therefore be treated as a legacy product while remaining stock is available.

Thick and profiled door application

The 71T9680 is designed for furniture fronts whose thickness or edge profile requires the specialised geometry of Blum’s 95° thick-door hinge range. It is not an aluminium-frame hinge.

Blum’s earlier planning information covered front thicknesses from approximately 16mm to 32mm. This range should not be treated as automatic compatibility. The edge radius, decorative profile, drilling distance, required centre gap and mounting-plate height all affect the finished installation.

Complete a trial installation before drilling multiple doors, especially when working with fronts above 24mm or heavily moulded edge profiles.

Dual or half-overlay installation

A dual application is used where two doors are hinged to opposite sides of one shared central panel. Each door covers part of the panel edge rather than the full edge covered by a conventional overlay hinge.

The final overlay and centre gap depend on the hinge-cup drilling distance, cabinet-panel thickness and mounting-plate height. These measurements should be checked before drilling.

Knock-in cup fixing

The 35mm hinge cup is supplied with pre-fitted dowels. These are pressed into two accurately prepared 8mm fixing holes positioned on 45mm centres beside the cup recess.

Suitable insertion equipment or a controlled workshop pressing method is normally required. Knock-in fixing is not the same as INSERTA: an INSERTA hinge uses a lever-operated mechanism for tool-free cup installation.

The hinge arm itself connects tool-free to a separate Blum CLIP mounting plate on the cabinet.

Does this hinge have soft close?

No. The 71T9680 has a conventional sprung, self-closing action but does not contain BLUMOTION. For the equivalent application with integrated soft close, choose the Blum 71B9680 BLUMOTION hinge.

Do not mix 71T9680 and 71B9680 hinges on the same door. Blum advises that CLIP top BLUMOTION and standard CLIP top hinges should not be combined on one furniture front.
