PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Alpha A1879 Water Resistant Woodworking Adhesive — 5L

Alpha A1879 is a high-performance, one-part cross-linking PVAc woodworking adhesive offering excellent water and heat resistance. A white, free-flowing creamy liquid that dries to a translucent film, it delivers fast bond strength development and very high final bond strength — making it ideal for both interior and exterior furniture and joinery applications. Conforms to BS EN 204 D3 specifications.

Not recommended for continuous immersion in water.

Key Features

  • BS EN 204 D3 rated — certified water and heat resistant woodworking adhesive
  • One-part cross-linking system — no mixing required, ready to use straight from the container
  • Fast bond strength development — rapid initial grab with very high final bond strength (>1000 N shear strength on wood)
  • Heat resistant to 100°C — suitable for hot press lamination processes
  • Versatile application — brush, roller, or machine application; suitable for fabrication and lamination
  • Easy clean-up — wet adhesive cleans up with water
  • 18-month shelf life when stored correctly
  • Colour: White (liquid) / Clear (dried) | Capacity: 5L Jerrycan | Pack: Single

Typical Applications

  • Bonding various types of wood — including oily timbers (pre-wipe with solvent)
  • Furniture manufacture and joinery fabrication
  • Lamination — hot press and cold press processes
  • Mortice, tenon, and dowel joints

Application Guide

Fabrication

  1. Ensure surfaces are dry, clean, and free from dust, oil, or grease.
  2. Apply adhesive by brush, roller, or machine to one surface. For mortice/tenon/dowel joints, apply into the hole so adhesive is carried into the joint on assembly.
  3. Bond whilst adhesive is still wet. Clean surplus with a damp cloth.
  4. Apply light pressure by press, clamp, or jig. Setting time: 12–24 hours at low temperatures; shorter in warmer, drier conditions. Optimum bond strength develops in 7–10 days.
  5. Before staining, sand areas adjoining adhesive lines to ensure uniform finish.

Lamination

  1. Apply a uniform coat (50–100 g/m²) to one surface by roller coater or brush.
  2. Hot Press: 80 psi for 15–30 seconds at 100–110°C.
  3. Cold Press: 20–40 psi for 30–60 minutes at room temperature.
  4. Maximum bond strength and water resistance develop after 7–10 days.

Storage

Store in original container with lid tightly secured, in dry conditions at 5°C–25°C. Shelf life: up to 18 months from date of manufacture.
