Blum 71B9680 CLIP top BLUMOTION Thick-Door Hinge – 95° Half Overlay, Knock-In

The Blum 71B9680 is a specialist concealed hinge designed for thick furniture doors and doors with pronounced edge profiles. Its dual or half-overlay geometry is intended for installations where two doors are hinged from opposite sides of the same central cabinet panel.

Unlike Blum’s aluminium-frame hinges, the 71B9680 uses a conventional round concealed-hinge boss with a knock-in fixing system. It is suitable for compatible timber, MDF, chipboard and profiled furniture fronts prepared to the correct Blum drilling pattern.

Integrated BLUMOTION soft-close technology controls the final closing movement, providing a quieter, smoother action without requiring a separate damper.

Designed for thick and profiled doors

Standard 110° cabinet hinges can experience clearance problems when fitted to unusually thick doors or fronts with projecting mouldings and decorative edge profiles.

The 95° geometry of the 71B9680 provides additional clearance options for these applications. Door thickness alone does not guarantee compatibility—the edge profile, hinge position, cabinet construction and required opening clearance must also be considered.

A trial installation should be completed before drilling a production batch, particularly where the door has a substantial moulding or unusual edge detail.

What does dual or half overlay mean?

A half-overlay hinge is used where two cabinet doors share one central partition. Each door covers part of the panel edge, allowing the adjoining doors to meet with a controlled central gap.

The final overlay depends on the mounting-plate height, cabinet-side thickness, boss position and hinge adjustment. The door position should therefore be calculated before drilling.

Integrated BLUMOTION soft-close

BLUMOTION slows the door during the final part of its closing movement. This produces a controlled, quiet close and helps reduce impact on thick or heavier furniture fronts.

The damping function can be deactivated on an individual hinge when required. This helps balance the closing action on smaller doors that may not require active damping from every hinge.

Use matching CLIP top BLUMOTION hinges throughout each door. Blum advises that CLIP top BLUMOTION and non-BLUMOTION hinges should not be combined on the same door.

Knock-in hinge boss

The knock-in boss uses pre-mounted fixing dowels that are pressed into a correctly prepared drilling pattern. This provides a fast and consistent production fixing without separate cup screws.

The fixing is not the same as screw-on or INSERTA. Correct drilling and suitable insertion equipment are required to install the boss without damaging the hinge or door.

Installation and adjustment

The hinge arm clips onto a compatible Blum mounting plate without tools. This allows the door to be attached or removed while the mounting plate remains secured to the cabinet.

Side, depth and height adjustment enable the installer to refine the half-overlay position and achieve an even central gap. The spiral depth-adjustment screw provides precise adjustment without removing the door.
