PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Sapele Flexible Wood Veneer FSHM 25mm × 100m Pre-Glued is a genuine real-wood edging roll with a factory-applied heat-activated adhesive. It provides exposed board edges with the rich reddish-brown colour, fine texture and distinctive natural character of Sapele.

Sapele is valued for its warm golden-to-deep reddish-brown colouring and attractive grain, which may display straight, interlocked or ribbon-like figure depending on the cut. Its sophisticated appearance makes it particularly suitable for high-quality furniture, cabinetry, doors, fitted interiors and decorative joinery.

The 25mm width provides a generous trimming allowance on standard furniture panels and is particularly useful where additional coverage is required. The 100m roll supports repeated workshop use and production edging.

What Does FSHM Mean?

FSHM refers to veneer that is Fleeced, Sanded and supplied with Hot-Melt adhesive.

The supporting fleece improves the flexibility and stability of the natural veneer. The visible Sapele face is sanded smooth, while the reverse carries a factory-applied hot-melt adhesive.

The adhesive is activated using controlled heat and firm pressure, so a separate glue does not normally need to be applied.

Why Choose 25mm Width?

The 25mm width provides more trimming allowance than the standard 22mm edging, making it useful for thicker panels, uneven edges or applications where a more generous overhang is preferred before trimming flush.

Application Guidance

Allow the veneer and panel material to acclimatise in the same working environment. Prepare a straight, smooth, clean and dry edge, removing dust, grease, oil and loose fibres.

Cut the veneer slightly longer than the finished component. Position it with an even trimming allowance and activate the adhesive using a suitable edge-banding machine, veneer iron or controlled heat source.

Work progressively along the component, applying consistent heat and firm pressure. Allow the adhesive to cool and form its bond before trimming.

Always test the veneer and settings on an offcut before starting a full production run.

Trimming and Finishing

Once the adhesive has cooled, trim the excess veneer flush with the panel faces using a sharp veneer trimmer or suitable cutting tool. Sapele can have interlocked grain, so pay careful attention to grain direction when trimming.

The sanded veneer can be finished with a compatible clear lacquer, oil, wax or wood stain. Clear finishes generally deepen the reddish-brown colour and highlight Sapele’s natural lustre and figure. Avoid aggressive sanding and always test the finishing system on an offcut first.

Natural Wood Variation

Sapele is a genuine natural material. Colour, grain direction, ribbon figure and other markings will vary between sections and production batches. Sapele commonly ranges from golden brown to deeper reddish brown and may darken after finishing or with age.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this genuine Sapele veneer?

Yes. The visible surface is genuine natural Sapele rather than a printed or imitation wood-effect material.

Does it have adhesive on the back?

Yes. It has a factory-applied hot-melt adhesive activated using controlled heat and pressure.

What is the difference between 22mm and 25mm Sapele edging?

The 25mm width provides a larger trimming allowance and is useful for thicker panels or where additional coverage is preferred.

Is Sapele the same as mahogany?

No. Sapele is a separate timber species, although its warm reddish-brown appearance is often associated with mahogany-style furniture and joinery.

Can it be applied using an iron?

A suitable veneer iron or controlled heat source can be used. An appropriate edge-banding machine may provide more consistent results for production work.

Can Sapele veneer be stained or lacquered?

Yes. It accepts many compatible wood stains, oils and lacquers. Always test the chosen finish on an offcut first.
