What Does FSHM Mean?

FSHM refers to veneer that is Fleeced, Sanded and supplied with Hot-Melt adhesive.

The supporting fleece improves flexibility and stability during handling. The genuine White Oak face is sanded to produce a smooth surface, while the factory-applied hot-melt adhesive eliminates the need to spread a separate adhesive in normal compatible applications.

Application Guidance

Allow the veneer and panel material to acclimatise in the same working environment before installation. Prepare a straight, smooth, clean and dry panel edge, removing dust, oil, grease and loose material.

Cut the veneer slightly longer than the component and position it with sufficient trimming allowance. Activate the hot-melt adhesive using a suitable edge-banding machine, veneer iron or controlled heat source.

Apply firm, consistent pressure while the adhesive is warm, working progressively along the edge. The quality of the finished bond depends on achieving the correct combination of heat, movement and pressure.

Allow the adhesive to cool properly before trimming or finishing. Always test the intended equipment and settings on an offcut before beginning the main project.

Trimming and Finishing

After the adhesive has cooled, trim the excess veneer flush with the panel faces using a sharp veneer trimmer or suitable cutting tool. Follow the grain direction where possible to reduce the risk of tearing or splitting the natural wood surface.

The White Oak face can then be lightly sanded and finished with a compatible clear lacquer, oil, wax or wood stain. Clear finishes generally deepen the natural colour and highlight the grain, while stains can help coordinate the edging with an existing furniture finish.

Avoid aggressive sanding because decorative veneer is considerably thinner than solid timber. Test the chosen finish on an offcut first.
