Blum Angled Hinges

Every kitchen needs cabinets, but not every cabinet opens as effectively as we would like; perhaps there’s a cupboard which opens the wrong way, a door which swings shut when you want it to stay open, or that one corner unit that houses all the junk that no-one needs because it’s impossible to get into to.  If you’ve fallen victim to one of these kitchens, then there’s no doubt you wish that your designer had used Blum angle hinges and Blum restriction clips.

Types of Angle Hinge

As a designer of furniture or kitchens, you should pay close attention to the types of hinges used in cabinets. As the opening angle can change the overall flow of the kitchen substantially. Please watch the video below for a few examples of cabinets with varying opening angles:

As illustrated by the video, most cabinets fit the standard opening angle of 95 degrees. This offers almost a perfect right angle of opening. The 95 degrees standard is visually pleasing and ensures that your cabinet doors won’t be crashing into one another if they’re opening towards the same point.

You might choose a cabinet with a slightly larger opening angle of 110 degrees if you want more room to manoeuvre when stacking your dishes.

There are also options to choose a cabinet of 165 degrees for a larger opening angle, but this should be avoided for most kitchen cabinets as it can lead to cabinet doors obstructing one another in everyday life. This might seem like a small grievance, but there is some truth in feng shui – a poorly arranged room brings discomfort and disappointment to its users.

You should avoid creating obstructions where possible, and always think with the end goal in mind. Consider how your design will be used practically, rather than simply aesthetically.

With cabinets that use Blum angle hinges, you can create your perfect kitchen. Our wide range of hinges are available to allow you to personalise your kitchen requirements right down to the last bolt, but if you’re not certain what the difference is between a Blum clip top angle hinge -15, and a Blum clip angle Ovlay hinge +45, you should contact us for further information regarding your needs. Our friendly team is more than happy to help.

What is a Blum Restriction Clip?

A restriction clip prevents a door from opening more than a certain degree. They are used to prevent cabinet doors from swinging into one another and are, therefore, integral for luxury kitchens. These restriction clips can be installed before or after the hinge is added on a cabinet, which can be a useful tip if you are carrying out small renovations on a kitchen.

For example, if you are upcycling a kitchen and therefore hoping to keep most of the kitchen cabinets, you may consider tightening the hinges and adding restriction clips. This is a fairly easy process that can revolutionise the feel of a kitchen and therefore should be strongly considered when working on home improvements.
