The Right One For the Job: Hinges

By Martin Hart on Thu 05 March 2020

Whether you are hanging a door, installing kitchen cabinets or fitting a shower panel, it’s essential that you use the right materials and tools for the job. Not only will it ensure that your installations last longer, but it will help you to protect yourself and others from dodgy DIY jobs. But it can be hard to know what is right for the job as there’s just so much to choose from!

Today we’ll take a look at some of the hinges we have available to buy, and discuss what they can be best used for.

Butt Hinges

These are one of the most common forms of hinge and they are probably what you picture when you think of hinges. They are most commonly used to hang doors and windows and are often used in two's or three's in order to evenly distribute the weight.

Angled Hinges

These hinges are often used in kitchens where space is tight. Many kitchen designs feature corner cabinets so these hinges are used to make the most of the small space. You can also use these hinges in conjunction with a hinge clip which allows you to restrict the angle to which a cupboard door would open. This is particularly useful if a door would open out into other furniture if it was fully opened.

Glass Hinges

These hinges do pretty much what they say on the tin! If you are using a glass door - as a shower door, for example - it's essential that you use the right hinge, as an unsuitable one could cause damage to the glass itself or even break it. These hinges allow you to create an attractive and functional glass door which doesn't need a large and unattractive door frame. You can also use cover caps with these hinges in order to maintain the aesthetics of your design.

Blumotion Hinges

The Blumotion hinges can be used in many different applications in the kitchen, bathroom and any other room in the house. These hinges allow for the soft close function on drawers which is a trending feature at the moment. This can be a great way of preventing damage to drawers and cupboards as they can't be slammed shut.

Inserta Hinges

Inserta hinges may be the easiest hinges to use and install. They don't require the use of tools, so they're an excellent option for a quick DIY job. You can use inserta hinges for just about anything, but they're often the first choice as they are so simple to use.

Tip On Hinges

These hinges are the perfect feature for any stylish kitchen or bathroom as they eliminate the need for handles on kitchen or bathroom cabinets and cupboards. This is a great option if your room is short on space as you won't have handles protruding from your cabinets. It also adds a feel of luxury and style to a room, so this is a great option for a renovation.
