Tips on Staying Safe While Working During Winter

By Martin Hart on Thu 05 March 2020

Winter is virtually on our doorstep, which means that necessary safety requirements need to be taken for those who work inside AND outside. Whether you are working on an indoor project, such as a kitchen renovation, or you are working outdoors, such as painting one of your clients’ houses, it is vital to make sure that you and your employees are as safe as possible.

That’s why we at Hart Wholesale have provided you with some easy yet important tips to remember during your work hours to make sure that you don’t injure yourself or someone else!

Use the Right Type of Ladder

This is something that you should be thinking about all year round, but the winter is particularly important, as there are hazards such as ice, snow, and water present. Just make sure that the ladder can handle your weight plus whatever you are carrying.

Also, make sure that the area around your work area, if you are working outside, is free of any obstacles, such as snow, and ice, so that you minimise the risk of any injuries occurring.

Thoroughly Inspect Your Work Environment

This is applicable to both inside and outside work. If the weather is particularly bad and you are working in the kitchen, you will be dripping with water when you enter your client’s house. With this, it is important to make sure that when you start your work, the floors are clear of any slip hazards to ensure your safety as well as everyone else around you.

If you are working outside, simply make sure that there are no hazards around you. This can be anything from slip hazards or even jackets, mugs, and other items that can keep you warm during the cold weather but could potentially get in the way.

Make Sure to Stay as Warm as Possible

Making sure that you are wearing the right clothing, as well as keeping as warm as possible in the harsh weather, is a priority when it comes to keeping safe. If you are working in the harsh rain, windy or snowy weather outside, you need to make sure that you are properly protecting yourself.

Even if you just add another layer to your work attire, this will greatly benefit your health and it will also benefit your work ethic, since if you are cold, then you will be less inclined to complete work.
