The Blum 71B970A is a premium concealed hinge engineered specifically for narrow aluminium-frame cabinet doors in an inset application. The inset hinge arm positions the closed aluminium-framed door inside the cabinet opening, creating clean, consistent margins around the front.

Integrated BLUMOTION soft-close technology slows the door during the final part of the closing movement, producing a smooth and controlled close. The damping function can be switched off on an individual hinge, allowing the closing action to be adjusted for smaller or lighter doors.

A controlled 95° opening angle makes this hinge particularly suitable for display cabinetry, contemporary kitchens, fitted furniture and aluminium-framed glass doors where excessive door travel is undesirable.

What is an inset hinge?

An inset hinge positions the closed door inside the cabinet opening rather than covering the cabinet sides. This creates a framed appearance with a visible, even margin around the aluminium door.

The mounting plate position must allow for the width of the aluminium frame and the required door gap. Profile dimensions and machining positions should therefore be checked against the Blum planning information before production begins.

Integrated BLUMOTION soft-close

BLUMOTION is built into the hinge arm, so no separate soft-close damper is required. The mechanism slows the door before it reaches the cabinet, reducing noise and impact on the aluminium frame, decorative panel and cabinet construction.

The BLUMOTION function can be deactivated on an individual hinge. This can improve the closing action on small or lightweight doors where every hinge damper is not required.

Designed specifically for aluminium profiles

The 71B970A uses a shaped fixing boss designed for routed aluminium door profiles. It is not a conventional round 35mm concealed hinge and should not be fitted as though it were a standard timber, MDF or chipboard door hinge.

As aluminium profiles vary, check the side-frame width, frame thickness, routing dimensions and minimum door gap against the Blum technical information before machining. A trial installation is recommended when using a new profile.

Installation and adjustment

The shaped hinge boss is secured to the prepared aluminium profile using the supplied fixing screws. The hinge arm then clips onto a compatible mounting plate without tools, allowing the door to be attached or removed without disturbing the cabinet plate.

Three-dimensional adjustment allows the installer to refine the door position and produce consistent gaps after installation. The spiral depth-adjustment screw provides controlled adjustment without removing the hinge.
