The Blum 71T950AB is a specialist sprung CLIP top hinge for overlay cabinet doors manufactured from narrow aluminium profiles. It is specifically designed to accept the optional Blum 973A0500.01 clip-on BLUMOTION damper, allowing soft closing to be added to a suitable aluminium-frame door installation.

The hinge has a 95° opening angle and a straight arm for overlay applications. Its shaped zinc hinge cup screws into a correctly routed aluminium profile, providing the support and fixing geometry required for narrow aluminium-frame doors.

Without the optional 973A damper, the hinge operates as a conventional sprung, self-closing hinge. When the compatible damper is clipped onto the hinge arm, it provides controlled BLUMOTION soft closing without changing the aluminium-frame machining.

Designed for the Blum 973A damper

The defining feature of the 71T950AB is its compatibility with the Blum 973A0500.01 overlay BLUMOTION damper. The damper clips directly onto the prepared hinge arm, adding smooth and controlled soft closing without requiring another fixing hole in the door or cabinet.

The damper is not supplied with the hinge and must be ordered separately. The number of dampers required can vary with the size and weight of the aluminium-frame door, so a trial installation is recommended before fitting every door.

Screw-on aluminium-frame fixing

The 71T950AB uses a screw-on hinge cup. It is not a knock-in or INSERTA hinge. The aluminium profile must be accurately routed and drilled before the supplied screws are used to secure the shaped hinge cup.

This arrangement is designed for narrow aluminium-frame doors and must not be confused with a conventional circular 35mm hinge cup for timber, MDF or solid furniture fronts.

Aluminium-profile planning

Blum’s planning information covers common combinations of approximately 18–22mm frame thickness and 19–32mm side-frame width. Minimum door gaps and clearances vary according to the exact extrusion dimensions.

Check the aluminium profile against Blum’s routing diagram before machining a full set of doors. Certain wider or unusual profile combinations require a trial application, and the shaped hinge cup must be fully supported by the routed frame.

Mounting and adjustment

Once secured to the aluminium door profile, the hinge connects to a compatible Blum CLIP mounting plate inside the cabinet. The CLIP mechanism allows the door to be attached or removed without loosening the adjustment screws.

Side, height and depth adjustment help produce consistent door alignment and an even gap around the aluminium frame. The mounting-plate height must be selected according to the required overlay and cabinet construction.
