Blum 71B9650 CLIP top BLUMOTION Half-Overlay Thick-Door Hinge

The Blum 71B9650 is a specialist 95° concealed hinge for thick and profiled furniture doors up to 32mm thick. Its 9.5mm cranked arm is designed for a dual or half-overlay application, where two doors are hinged from opposite sides of the same centre cabinet panel.

Unlike Blum’s aluminium-frame hinges, the 71B9650 uses a conventional 35mm round hinge cup. The cup is screw-fixed into a properly drilled timber, MDF, chipboard or compatible profiled furniture door.

BLUMOTION soft close is integrated into the hinge, providing a smooth and controlled closing action without requiring a separate damper. The damping function can be switched off at an individual hinge when adjustment is required for a smaller or lighter door.

Made for thick and profiled doors

Standard cabinet hinges can cause clearance problems when used with unusually thick doors, heavily profiled fronts or doors with substantial edge detailing. The 95° geometry of the Blum 71B9650 provides additional planning options for these applications.

The hinge can be used with compatible doors up to 32mm thick, but maximum door thickness should not be treated as automatic compatibility. Door-edge profiling, cup position, cabinet construction and the required opening clearance must all be considered.

Complete a trial installation before drilling a production batch, particularly where the door has a projecting moulding, thick edge profile or an unusual mounting angle.

What does dual or half overlay mean?

A dual application is used where two cabinet doors are hinged from opposite sides of one shared centre panel. Each door covers part of the panel edge, allowing the two fronts to meet neatly in the centre.

The 9.5mm cranked hinge arm provides the half-overlay geometry required for this arrangement. It should not be substituted with the straight-arm overlay or fully cranked inset version without recalculating the door position.

Integrated BLUMOTION soft close

The BLUMOTION mechanism slows the door during the final part of the closing movement. This provides a quieter, more controlled close and helps reduce impact on thicker or heavier furniture doors.

A switch on the hinge allows BLUMOTION to be deactivated when required. This can help balance the closing action where a small door does not require damping from every hinge.

Use matching CLIP top BLUMOTION hinges throughout each door. Blum advises against combining CLIP top BLUMOTION and non-BLUMOTION hinges on the same door.

35mm screw-on cup

The 71B9650 uses a 35mm diameter cup with a nominal depth of 12mm. The cup is secured using screws through the cup flanges. It is not an INSERTA or knock-in version.

Check the actual door thickness and material before drilling. The cup and fixing screws must not break through the face of the door, and the selected screw length must be suitable for the remaining material beneath the cup.

Mounting and adjustment

The hinge arm clips onto a compatible Blum mounting plate without tools. This enables the door to be attached and removed while the mounting plate remains fixed to the cabinet.

Side, depth and height adjustments allow the finished door position and centre gap to be refined. The exact half-overlay dimension depends on the mounting-plate height, cabinet thickness, cup position and hinge setting.

The cabinet mounting plate and cup-fixing screws are not included. Choose the appropriate plate from our Blum CLIP top mounting plates.
